Many of us struggle to shed those extra kilos, don’t we? We jog, run, do a lot of exercises, but it is not at all an easy job! By the way, most of us are of the opinion that fats are bad for the body. Though it is true, not all fats have a catastrophic effect on our bodies. Some fats, for example, brown fats are helpful for us!

Let’s try to understand what they are:  

Well, brown fats specialise in heat generation. They contain a high number of mitochondria, the cell’s powerhouses responsible for generating energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). 

These mitochondria also contain a protein called uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), which uncouples the process of ATP production from energy generation, leading to heat production instead.

Brown fats help reduce diabetes

As interesting as it may sound, brown fats go a long way in curbing diabetes. People with good brown fats have a better sense of insulin sensitivity too. It can also increase glucose tolerance, thereby reducing type-2 diabetes.

It’s interesting to note that brown fats can be generated by sleeping under colder conditions, say at least 19 degrees. At the same time, sleeping in hotter conditions can reduce it.
