Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the Government of Karnataka Dinesh Gundu Rao posted the results provided by the National Meat Research Institute for the samples that were claimed to be dog meat. Pro-Hindu organisations claimed that the meat was being transported from Rajasthan to Bengaluru and had confronted the drivers transporting the meat upon its arrival by train. “Following recent media reports alleging the transportation of mutton and other animal meat from Rajasthan to Bengaluru via train, we committed to thoroughly investigating this matter through scientific verification. To ensure accuracy, we sent a total of 84 parcels to the ICAR-National Meat Research Institute in Hyderabad for rigorous lab analysis,” Dinesh stated in a post on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

Earlier, former BJP MP Prathap Simha had given a public call for people to protest outside the Basaveshwara Nagar Police Station over the alleged custodial harassment of Puneeth Kerehalli who had confronted the drivers transporting the meat. He was however detained by the police. Dinesh affirmed that the meat in question in fact belonged to sheep. “After meticulous testing, the lab results have conclusively confirmed that the meat in question originates from sheep. This finding lays to rest any speculation or misinformation surrounding the issue. Now that the truth has been established, I urge the public to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated rumours and to rely solely on official reports for verification. Let us work together to maintain a well-informed and responsible community. Your cooperation is essential in preventing the spread of misinformation,” Dinesh added.
