As per K'taka govt, Centre is yet to release funds

CM informs that his govt has approached top court for relief

Matter to be heard after top court reconvenes after vacation

In an important development, the Karnataka government has approached the Supreme Court, seeking its intervention in the release of drought-related funds from the Centre.

CM Siddaramaiah informed that the petition was filed early this morning and the matter would be heard by the apex court after its reopening next week.

He also clarified that the state did not have any other option but to knock on the doors of the highest court in the country.

Appealed to the Centre three times

The CM also informed that they had presented as many as 3 requests to the Centre, but they had yielded no results. Out of 240 taluks, 225 have been declared drought-hit and the state has suffered agricultural losses on 48 lakh hectares of land.

Central team visits state, but of no use

Stressing that a team from the Centre had visited the state to study the consequences of drought in the state, the CM noted that they had already submitted a report to the Centre, but no funds had been released even after a month of their submission, which he said, is a violation of the federal structure.
