The Election Commission of India has uploaded data related to electoral bonds on its website, in compliance with the orders issued by the Supreme Court of India, it might be recalled that the SBI had delivered the data to the Election Commission on Tuesday.
Who the donors are
Among the names that have been published are Grasim Industries, Piramal Enterprises, Megha Engineering, Apollo Tyres, Lakshmi Mittal, Edelweiss, PVR, Keventer, Sula Wine, Welspun, Sun Pharma among others.
The BJP is the biggest gainer. Other parties include Congress, AIADMK, BRS, Shiv Sena, TDP, YSR Congress, DMK, JDS, NCP, TMC, JDU, RJD, APP and SP.
The data which has been revealed gives us information of donors who purchased the bonds in denominations of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore dating back to 2019.
SC comes down hard
Almost a month ago the Supreme Court struck down the bonds saying they are unconstitutional. The court also asked the SBI to furnish all the details, but the SBI approached the top court asking it time till June 2024. But, the top court didn’t pay any heed and asked it to furnish details by March 12, 2024.
