Although the primary cause of premature hair greying (PHG) is considered to be genetic, certain environmental factors also play a role. Trace element deficiencies such as Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, and calcium may also be associated with PHG.

The biggest culprit today seems to be our lifestyle, of course at times it could be genetical too. The main reasons apart from being genetical is stress, obesity, smoking and vitamin deficiencies.

Home remedies for prevention of hair greying:

1. Coconut Oil and Flax seeds

Mildly roast flax seeds, rice and boil it with coconut oil along with neem and curry leaves. Leave overnight, filter and use.

This method is straight from grandma’s kitchen and can be safely used.

2. Black Sesame seeds

Black sesame seeds, are known to enhance black pigmentation in the hair. Hence, they can be applied or consumed. Eating black sesame seeds twice a week may help to slow down or even reverse the hair greying process.

3. Amla

No hair care is complete without amla as it a power house of nutrients packed rightly for the hair. It not only enriches hair pigmentation but also promotes hair growth.

Take dried fruit of amla and coconut oil and boil them together till it gets charred. Once cooled, filter it, store and use. You can massage your hair with this amla oil and drink amla juice regularly to avoid premature greying of hair.

4. Curry leaves

Using curry leaves is extremely beneficial in preventing greying of hair. Curry leaves crushed into a paste when mixed with yoghurt can be applied on hair twice a week to get the benefits.

5. Ashwagandha:

It improves blood circulation and prevents premature hair greying. Ashwagandha root powder along with Brahmi powder may be formed into a paste and used as a mask. This mask can be massaged on the scalp and washed later for benefits. Consuming ashwagandha tea also helps to reduce greying of hair.

6. Bhringraj:

It prevents and deals with premature hair greying. Leaves of Bhringraj may be soaked in any oil overnight, and this oil may be applied to hair.

7. Hibiscus Flower:

Hibiscus contains vitamin C and A and iron. Paste of its flower along with any oil when applied to hair helps in managing grey hair by blackening the hair.
