Google revealed on October 18 during the ninth edition of its India-centric event, Google for India, that it will produce its Pixel smartphones in India.

The recently launched Pixel 8 is expected to be the first in the lineup to be locally manufactured, with a projected release slated for 2024, according to the tech giant.

Rick Osterloh, Google’s Senior VP for Devices and Services, emphasized the company’s commitment to making Pixel smartphones more accessible in India, stating, “Today, we see an even greater opportunity in making Pixel smartphones available to more people in India, and are very excited to announce our plan to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India. We will collaborate with both international and domestic manufacturers to locally produce Pixel phones, aligning with the Make in India initiative.”

Osterloh also underscored India’s significance as a “priority market” for Pixel devices, lauding the nation’s growing status as an excellent manufacturing hub that fosters a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
