A few carnatic singers upset over honour to singer TM Krishna
They allege he disrespected icons likd Subbulakshmi
They have withdrawn from performing in music conference
Carnatic vocalists Ranjani-Gayatri and Harikatha exponent Dushyanth Sridhar have opted out of the Music Academy Conference 2024 in protest. Their decision follows the Music Academy’s recent conferral of the Sangita Kalanidhi award upon TM Krishna.
Ranjani and Gayatri, expressing their dissent on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), announced their withdrawal from the conference and their scheduled performance on December 25.
They wrote, “He has caused immense damage to the Carnatic music world, wilfully and happily stomped over the sentiments of this community and insulted most respected icons like Tyagaraja and MS Subbulakshmi. It is dangerous to overlook TM Krishna’s glorification of a figure like EVR (Periyar) who openly proposed a genocide of Brahmins, repeatedly called/ abused every woman of this community with vile profanity, relentlessly worked to normalise filthy language in social discourse (sic)”, stated Ranjani and Gayatri in their statement.

They cited Krishna’s actions as detrimental to Carnatic music, alleging that he has disrespected revered figures like Tyagaraja and MS Subbulakshmi. The duo condemned Krishna’s praise of EVR (Periyar), a figure known for controversial views, including advocating for actions against Brahmins. Dushyanth Sridhar, a renowned Vedic speaker, echoed similar sentiments in a letter to the Music Academy’s President. He conveyed his decision to abstain from performing on January 1, considering it inappropriate to share the stage immediately after Krishna’s award ceremony. These withdrawals underscore the division within the Carnatic music community over Krishna’s recognition and his controversial viewpoints.
However, another singer Chinmayi Sripada has come in support of the singer.
The actions of Molester Vidwans in Carnatic music didn’t bring them any shame at all.
Please note the point. https://t.co/2PeyUKVWg0
