State health authorities have launched large-scale sampling of ‘Eggoz’ brand eggs following cancer-related concerns, with results expected in 14 days.

The Karnataka health department has gone on high alert following reports raising concerns over the safety of ‘Eggoz’ brand eggs, including claims that they may be carcinogenic. In response, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has directed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to immediately collect samples and conduct laboratory testing.

Acting on these instructions, FSSAI officials have begun collecting egg samples across the state. Initial action has focused on the Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA), where samples of ‘Eggoz’ brand eggs were gathered from multiple locations and sent to laboratories for detailed analysis. The authenticity and safety of the eggs are expected to be confirmed within 14 days, once the laboratory reports are received.

So far, the health department has collected more than 150 egg samples across Karnataka. Of these, around 50 samples have been collected within Bengaluru alone. Sampling has been carried out in several key areas of the city, including RR Nagar, Kengeri, BTM Layout, Koramangala, Yeshwanthpur, Vasanth Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Chamarajpet, Hebbal, KR Puram, Mysuru Road and several other locations, taking the total Bengaluru sampling points to over 50.

FSSAI officials have confirmed to NewsFirst that the current phase focuses mainly on the ‘Eggoz’ brand within the GBA limits. Based on the laboratory findings, authorities plan to extend sample collection to other districts across the state. If any suspicion arises during testing, samples of other egg brands will also be collected and sent for examination.

The state health department has stated that the exercise is aimed at ensuring food safety and preventing any potential risk to public health. The final laboratory report, expected after 14 days, will determine the next course of action.
