It was inaugurated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Bengaluru

MPLS makes internet run smoother for everyone involved

Imagine you’re mailing letters to different friends across the country, but instead of writing out their full addresses every time, you put a code on the envelope that tells the postal workers exactly where to send it. That code is like a label.

Now, in networking, when data (like emails, videos, or web pages) travels from one computer to another across the internet, it usually follows a path determined by its destination address. But with MPLS, routers along the way add a special label to the data packet. This label tells the routers exactly where to send the packet next, based on the most efficient path available.

So, instead of each router having to look up the destination address in a big table every time, they simply look at the label and forward the packet accordingly. This speeds up the process and helps manage network traffic more efficiently.

For example, let’s say you’re streaming a movie from a server in another country. The data packets carrying the movie stream are labeled with instructions on how to reach your device. Along the way, routers use these labels to quickly send the packets along the best path, ensuring smooth and fast streaming without delays or interruptions.

In essence, MPLS is like putting express labels on your data packets to ensure they reach their destination quickly and efficiently, making the internet run smoother for everyone involved.
