Rohit Sharma was explosive in the 2023 ODI WC

Indian Captain for One Day Internationals (ODIs) and test cricket, Rohit Sharma has not played an International T20 match since India’s loss to England in the semi final of the 2022 T20 World Cup. This had led to the assumption that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had plans of a split captaincy formula for the future with Hardik Pandya as the T20 captain. Hardik Pandya being highly injury prone has added to the troubles of the selector. Furthemore, Rohit Sharma was at his explosive best as an opener in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2023. This had led to speculations that Rohit was in the fray to be the captain of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the United States of America (USA) and West Indies in June 2024.

Secretary of BCCI Jay Shah was asked a question regarding this during the Women’s Premier League auctions in Mumbai. “What is the need to have clarity right now? The T20 World Cup is starting in June, we have the Indian Premier League (IPL) before that and the series against Afghanistan,” he said. This has added to the ambiguity among fans regarding this scenario.
