In what is indeed a groundbreaking achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has unveiled stunning high-resolution images of the Chandrayaan-3 lander, Vikram, and the Pragyan rover on the lunar surface. Processed by independent researcher Chandra Tungathurthi, these images, captured on March 15, 2024, showcase unprecedented detail surpassing previous captures shortly after the historic landing on August 23, 2023.

The latest images, obtained at a reduced altitude of approximately 65 kilometers, boast a remarkable resolution of 17 centimeters per pixel, significantly enhancing clarity compared to initial images taken at 100 kilometers altitude. This advancement underscores ISRO’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of space exploration by capturing the Moon’s surface at unprecedented levels of detail, achieved through orbit lowering to 60-65 kilometers.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission, which achieved a historic soft landing on the lunar south pole in 2023, marked India’s significant milestone as the first country to achieve this feat in the region and the fourth globally. The Vikram lander and Pragyan rover conducted extensive experiments for 14 Earth days, advancing our understanding of the lunar environment and laying the groundwork for future space exploration.
