Due to lack of proper lighting, his car collided with a divider and toppled. This resulted in his death. The incident occurred in January 2022. An FIR was filed on 23rd September against Anand Mahindra and thirteen others under sections 420, 287, 304-A, 504, 506 and 120-B of the IPC. The thirteen include the store manager of the local unit of Kanpur and top officials in Mumbai.

“It is impossible for the car to have not been fitted with an airbag. The technical report suggests that the angle at which the collision occurred resulted in the airbag not getting opened. This has been verified during the police enquiry,” a senior official form Sri Tirupathi Auto (The agency from which the car was bought) said in an interaction with Quint Hindi on conditions of anonymity.

“This has been explained to Rajesh Mishra. Mahindra would also be providing a technical report. We are with him during such tough times. His son has passed away and his sorrow is understandable,” he added.
