The incident in which Adil, who allegedly died mysteriously while in police custody in Karnataka’s Channagiri, has taken a curious twist. Admitting that he may have made such statements as a result of suffering low BP, he reiterated that the police beat his son badly, thereby leading to his death.

Siddaramaiah speaks out

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who rushed to the issue, stressed that Adil had epilepsy and he did not die in police custody, as alleged by the father. He also said that was wrong of the police to have brought Adil to the station without lodging an FIR, and added that two police personnel have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.

In an incident reminiscent of DJ Halli riots in Bengaluru in 2020, where the police station was attacked by miscreants and even torched, hundreds of supporters of Adil rushed to the police station concerned and torched it, out of sheer anger that Adil had died in police custody. Tense atmosphere still prevails.
