Karnataka: Amidst B Nagendra’s resignation, confusion at DK Shivakumar’s press conference causes amusement

Supposed irregularities in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Limited have caused troubles for the Karnataka Government led by the Indian National Congress (INC). Karnataka Minister B Nagendra who earlier denied the allegations offered his resignation. The prevalence of corruption in the state government is being questioned. The opposition parties have been proactive in pursuing this issue. 

In a dramatic turn of events, Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) of Karnataka DK Shivakumar called a press conference to announce the news of the resignation. Nagendra however called DK Shivakumar during the press conference to inform him that he hasn’t resigned so far. DK Shivakumar then retracted his statement.

There was a protest by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka State President BY Vijayendra and the leader of the opposition R Ashok had conducted demonstrations against Nagendra and demanded his resignation. Former Minister of Home Affairs Araga Jnanendra, former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sunil Kumar and former Member of Parliament (MP) Chalavadi Narayanaswamy also took part in the demonstrations. Nagendra eventually yielded to this pressure. However his role in the alleged irregularity will become clear only after an investigation.
