The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold demonstrations across the state of Karnataka on January 3rd against the reopening of a 31-year-old case against Shrikanth Poojari. Shrikanth Poojari was earlier arrested from his home in Hubballi. The Karnataka State President of the BJP, BY Vijayayendra himself gave a call for the protest.

The District Presidents across Karnataka will lead the protests at 10:30 AM. The Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok will visit Hubballi in relation to the arrest. He will participate in a protest in Hubballi. After the protest he will pay a visit to the residence of Shrikanth Poojari. He will instil courage in Shrikanth Poojari’s family and reassure them of the party’s support.

The inauguration of the Ram Mandir is scheduled on January 22nd. Shrikanth Poojari is accused of participating in riots that followed the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992. It is on this land that the Ram Mandir will be constructed. The BJP leaders have claimed that is not merely a coincidence. They are reading into the arrest as a tactical disapproval of the Ram Mandir construction. BJP leaders have expressed disappointment with this development. The Congress has however claimed that is just a part of a larger drive among the police forces to bring a conclusion to cases which have been pending for years.
