Karnataka needed 267 runs to win with 9 wickets on final day

3 top order wickets fell quickly within 2 overs

Karnataka conceded a 174-run lead in the first inning

Karnataka’s journey in the Ranji Trophy has come to an end following a 127-run loss to Vidharbha in the quarter final held in Nagpur. Despite having conceded a 174-run lead in the first innings, Karnataka made a comeback after having bowled Vidharbha all out for 196 on the back of a brilliant 6-wicket haul by the Right-Arm Medium Fast bowler Vidhwath Kaverappa. Heading into the final day, Karnataka still had a fair chance to win the game. They needed 267 runs to win with 9 wickets. However 3 top order wickets fell quickly within 2 overs with just an addition of 4 runs. Karnataka were reduced to 131 for the loss of 4 wickets after having consolidated 127 for the loss of one wicket in their chase of 370. No major partnerships were built therafte and Karnataka were bowled out for 243 in 62.4 overs.

This has been the first time that they have failed to qualify for the semi final since the 2016-2017 edition wherein they had lost the quarter final match to Tamil Nadu. Earlier they failed to qualify for the quarter final in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and lost in the semi final to Rajasthan in the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy. It could be argued that overall this has been a year of diminishing returns for the Karnataka Cricket Team.
