On 16th February, Siddaramaiah will present his 15th budget

The budget session in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for the year 2024 will commence on 12th February. The report for the budget presentation has been prepared by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This budget will be different in comparison to the previous sessions. Balancing developmental projects alongside the implementation of the guarantee schemes will be a major challenge for the Karnataka government. The session will last for a period of 10 days. It will conclude on 23rd February.

With the Lok Sabha election due in 2 months, the budget session becomes even more interesting. One can expect confrontation between the ruling dispensation and the opposition parties. Allegations will be thrown around by both factions.

Particularly, the accusation of discrimination with regard to distribution of tax by the central government will be used by the Congress government as a tool to attack the opposition. A speech from the Governor at 11AM on 12th February will mark the commencement of proceedings. He will provide a report of the initiatives of the government over the last 9 months. A discussion will ensue after that. On 16th February, Siddaramaiah will present his 15th budget. The guarantee schemes will increase the government’s liability by Rs 58,000 crore.

In the previous budget Rs 3,27,000 crore were allocated by the state government across the board. This amount may increase in this year’s budget by more than Rs 50,000 crore.
