The Karnataka Contractors’ Association has levelled charges against the state government. They have alleged that small and medium scale contractors are facing injustice. The President of the Karnataka Contractors’ Association D.Kempanna threw light on the present situation in a press conference.

He stated that various departments have facilitated corruption through package tenders. The 40% commission is reported to have been continuing in the present regime as well. “The legislators would take commissions in the previous government. But currently along with legislators, government officials are also involved in this,” he said. Kempanna claimed to have met CM Siddarmaiah and requested to put an end to package tenders. He is said to have written letters to this effect as well.

He also hinted at an attempt by the government to replace the current set of contractors with contractors from neighbouring states. Package tenders are said to be in effect for contracts pertaining to Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation and Infrastructure Development Corporation, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society among other departments. He claimed that package tenders amounting to Rs 300 crore have been released by BBMP in the last one week. He warned the government of protests if the system of package tenders was not brought to an end. He also complained about not receiving the payments for contracts that have completed more than 2 years ago.
