During a discussion in the Vidhana Sabha, the topic of introduction of English as a medium of instruction came up. “Parents are asking for the introduction of English as a medium of instruction. Without this, the enrollment rate will get affected. How can one preserve government schools in this circumstance? Kindly permit English medium government schools. We will preserve government schools. We cannot rely on Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officers. Are only their kids deserving of a high quality of education? So that their kids can also be IAS officers! This is oppression of kids from a poor background,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Tirtahalli Araga Jnanendra said.

Minister of Primary & Secondary Education and Sakala of Karnataka Araga Jnanendra responded to this request. “There is a demand for English medium schools. This is a complaint among students. This complaint has emerged from multiple government schools. This demand has come from all districts. Our government has taken a decision in this regard. Preparations are underway to open Karnataka Public Schools (KPS). Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds will be used for this purpose. There would be one school for every 2-3 gram panchayats. This will be functional from next year,” he mentioned.
