The Centre has finally released a sum of Rs 3454 crore as drought relief for Karnataka. This is much less than what the Karnataka government had sought. It had sought an amount of Rs 18,174 crore as relief.

Reacting to the release, senior Cong leader Ramalinga Reddy, speaking to NewsFirst Prime said, “They have released the amount seven months after we sought it. At the same time, it is not in consonance with the amount that we had sought. It is much, much less. We will approach the top court if the remainder is not credited.”

Meanwhile, the Karnataka BJP has lashed out against Cong chief Randeep Surjewala saying at a time when the state is undergoing drought, he is touring around the state in special flights. It also lampooned him saying that the Congress high command has deputed him to collect money and dubbed the government #ATMSarkara.

It might be recalled that the Karnataka government, headed by CM Siddaramaiah, had lodged a protest against the Centre in New Delhi for not releasing drought funds, several weeks ago. They had even approached the top court over the issue. The top court had asked the Centre to resolve the issue.
