Karnataka: Forest Officials rescue black leopard trapped in well with help of villagers

A rare black leopard that had fallen into a well was rescued with the aid of localities by officials of the Forest Department. The incident occurred in the Dakshina Kannada district. 

The leopard was captured in a bone trap in the Gospel Sanila region located in the Yedapadavu Taluk located in the Mangaluru district. Prior to this, the leopard was pulled out from the lake. The well was located in the house of a person named Shakuntala Acharya, a resident of Gospel Sanila.

The residents of Shankuntala’s house immediately informed the forest department upon having observed the leopard. The officials rushed to the spot with a cone trap and managed to get hold of the leopard with the help from other residents of the village. This leopard can only be spotted on very rare occasions. This is one such occurrence. Many people had gathered at the location to catch a glimpse of the black leopard. The black leopard appeared to be confused by such a large crowd and unsuccessfully attempted to break from the cage. However, one can be assured that the official would have released the leopard in a safe location within its habitat.
