    Crimes in Karnataka have reduced in 2024: Hithendra

Incidents of crime against women are being reported on a regular basis from the Hubli-Dharwad region of Karnataka. 2 of these cases gained significantly more traction. The Additional General of Police (ADGP) of Law and Order Hithendra visited the region to obtain information from parents. 

The murder of Neha Hiremath had become a matter of political contestation ahead of the 2nd phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. A love jihad angle was presented by certain political factions. Demonstrations were made demanding stringent punishment for the accused Fayaz. Even before this incident faded from public memory, the murder of Anjali shook the people of the region. There were demonstrations after this incident as well. The suspect Girish was shot in his  leg and is currently under the custody of the police. Some police officials have also been suspended.

The Home Minister of Karnataka G Parameshwara visited the region in light of allegations of negligence by the Police Department. A meeting was conducted along with senior police officials. Hithendra also offered words of solace to the family members of Anjali. Hithenra also talked to the media after the meeting and stated that apt directions have been provided to police officials. He highlighted that although the cases are distressing, the number of crimes in Karnataka have reduced in 2024 in comparison to the last 3 years.
