Initiative led by the Department of Minorities Welfare

Aims to support students to successfully pass their class 10 exams

Approx 100 madrassas in the state cater to around 5,000 children

The Karnataka government is taking steps to enhance the educational landscape in madrassas by collaborating with a coaching institute. The initiative, led by the Department of Minorities Welfare, aims to support students in successfully passing their class 10 exams through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

To facilitate this modernization effort, the department has invited tenders from training institutes capable of providing teachers and resources for both online and offline classes, fostering the comprehensive development of students. With approximately 100 madrassas in the state catering to around 5,000 children, the objective is to enable youngsters aged 13-18 to pursue mainstream education concurrently with their religious studies.

The state government’s vision involves strategic educational planning, ensuring that all madrassa students attain education up to SSLC/class 10, complementing their religious studies.

Recognizing the initial challenges these students may face, particularly in subjects like Kannada, a six-month intensive course will be provided in the madrasa itself. Each madrassa will be assigned a dedicated mentor proficient in Urdu language and possessing teaching expertise. Furthermore, the department plans to equip each madrassa with five computers and an interactive flat panel.

The training initiative is slated to commence in February 2024, with the course extending for a minimum of two years.

This comprehensive approach underscores the commitment of the Karnataka government to empower madrassa students by integrating mainstream education with their religious studies.
