Freebies have not worked for Congress in state?

BJP to win in excess of 20 seats in the state

Several polling agencies have predicted a massive victory for NDA in the Parliamentary elections. 

And in Karnataka too, which has the Congress government in power, the exit polls have pointed humongous numbers for the BJP.

India Today predicts BJP would win anywhere between  20 and 22, Congress to win between 3 and 5 and JDS, 2 to 3 in Karnataka. C Voter too has forecast similar numbers.

What ails Congress in Karnataka? 

Honestly, Congress had hoped that it would do spectacularly well in Karnataka. Last year, it won 136 seats and then implemented the guarantees, which are a hit among the masses, especially women. 

However, if the exit poll numbers are true, the guarantees have not translated into votes. Interestingly, the electoral forecasts do not even predict a double digit for the grand old party. 

But Dy CM DK Shivakumar and industries minister MB Patil laughed off the exit poll predictions, saying they don’t trust them and are still sanguine of getting more than 10 seats. 

Though they may be right in their beliefs that the exit polls are not infallible and hope to see better numbers on June 4, the exit polls clearly point towards the fact that the electorate chooses Narendra Modi nationally and the Congress locally. Freebies can’t win elections!
