The controversy surrounding the replacement of  a Hanuman flag with an Indian flag in the Keragodu region of Mandya has ignited tension across Karnataka. It has transcended into a political battle. The Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) of Keragodu has had to bear the brunt.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that had conducted protests across Karnataka had demanded for the suspension of the District Collector of Mandya. An order notifying the suspension of the Keragodu PDO has been released by the Mandya Gram Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

He is accused of having failed in his duties by providing the permission for the instalment of the Hanuman flag. Norms had been flouted by allowing private citizens to hoist flags. He did not initiate action even after the terms and conditions were not adhered to. He is being framed as primarily responsible for the unrest. The PDO has been identified as B.M Jeevan.

Security arrangements in the Keragodu Hobli have been intensified. Legislator from Mandya Ganiga Ravikumar has come under the opposition’s radar over this incident. He has promised to hold a peace rally in opposition to the BJP’s rally. He would be writing a letter to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister to take action against those attempting to create unrest in the region.
