Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced the inauguration of the much-awaited Cauvery Phase 5 water supply project, scheduled for October 16. The project is aimed at significantly improving Bengaluru’s water supply, especially benefiting high-altitude areas within the city.

In a recent statement, Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru's development and irrigation, highlighted that the fifth phase would boost the city’s current water capacity. “Currently, Bengaluru receives 1,500 MLD of water through four phases. With this new phase, an additional 50 lakh residents will benefit,” he said.

A key highlight of the project is the construction of India’s largest water treatment plant, with a capacity of 775 MLD. This will be supported by an extensive pipeline network stretching 110 kilometers to supply water to important areas such as Gottigere, Kadugodi, and Chokkanahalli.

Shivakumar also noted his recent visit to the site and assured that the project would be inaugurated at Torekadanahalli in Mandya district. "We are committed to ensuring that every household in Bengaluru gets water," he added.

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has already provided over 10 lakh water connections, and another 4 lakh connections are planned under this phase. The Cauvery Phase 5 project is expected to alleviate Bengaluru’s water shortage, especially during summer, bringing much-needed relief to millions of residents.
