The massive protests over removing the Hanumadhwaj at Mandya (Keregodu) in Karnataka took a violent turn as police lathicharged protesters, causing grievous hurt to one person.

It was a sea of saffron as various protestors seethed before the DC’s office in Mandya even as they sought permission from him to hoist the saffron flag.

The protests were held under the aegis of former Chief Minister and JD(S) strongman HD Kumaraswamy.

Early this morning, protesters, in a fit of rage, began tearing down Congress party’s flexes. During the melee, the police lathicharged the mob. One of them sustained grievous injuries to his eye.

Kumaraswamy said, “It is our culture to pray to Lord Hanuman on a daily basis. What the government is doing is nothing but its highhandedness. The police have resorted to lathicharge. One of them has been injured. Had he gone blind, would the SP have given him vision?”

On the other hand, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said, “I am a Hindu, but I love all people. I love people from all castes. That is the reason why they label me ‘anti-Hindu. I believe in coexistence and harmony.”

Now, as a countermeasure, the Congress is planning to hold a two-day Tiranga rally in which Congress workers will hold aloft the national flag and march on the prominent streets of Mandya.
