Karnataka: Spells of rain on Ugadi eve provide fresh lease of hope amidst intense heat

Karnataka has been faced with an intense heat in the summer season in 2024. There has however been some respite in this regard with bouts of rain. On the eve of Ugadi, parts of Karnataka received lasting spells of rain. It must be remembered that in 2023, many districts in Karnataka were declared as having been affected by drought. 

The Uchangidurga village located in the Harapanahalli Taluk in Vijayanagar, certain villages in the Koppal district, the Chikkodi town of Belagavi, the Nipani city of Belagavi, the Hukkeri town of Belagavi and the Sankeshwar town of Belagavi  were some of the regions affected by rain. The rain brought some cool winds along with it. This was required for the people struggling to cope with the heat.

Hubballi also received rain continuously for more than half an hour. This however also caused disruptions in the day-to-day activities of people.  The bordering regions of the Uttara Kannada district also received rain. The Sirsi and Siddapura regions of the district were particularly more affected. Thunderbolts could be heard. Rain has been predicted over the course of the next 3 days in this region as well. In the Lakkundi city, Siddanabhavi village of Gadag, people were seen enjoying the rain by indulging in swimming. One would hope that this trend continues in order to stop the predicament of 2023 from repeating.
