Government college students write to chief minister

Urge CM to open Indira Canteens on their college premises

CM’s office directs officials concerned to look into their request

Students urge Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to open Indira Canteens at government colleges and universities in the state. Indira Canteens have been satiating the hunger of lakhs of people in Bengaluru and other parts of the state ever since its launch.

Various students studying at government colleges and universities across the state have written a letter to the chief minister requesting him to open Indira Canteens or similar such eateries on their college and university premises.

Students said that this would greatly help them in fulfilling their hunger, particularly in the afternoon lunch. Many students don’t find affordable food at hotels located nearby these government institutions. In many cases, hotels are far away from their institutions and they find it difficult to find food for their lunch. Due to these various factors, many students skip their lunch and go hungry.

Interestingly, in response to the letter sent by students to the Chief Minister, Chief Minister’s office directed the officials concerned to take appropriate action on this request by forwarding the same letter to department concerned.

This move by students requesting the government to open Indira Canteens on their college premises will go a long way in satiating the hunger of lakhs of students across the state if these canteens really come up on government college and university premises in the near future.

Hope the government accommodates this request by students in the interest of their well-being and complementing their studies with fulfilling food.
