Karnataka Textbook Society unveiled its report on the textbook revisions

Textbook revisions revealed for academic year 2024-25 covering classes 1 to 10

Revisions to the syllabi align with the National Curriculum Framework-2005

The Karnataka Textbook Society unveiled its report on the textbook revisions for the academic year 2024-25, covering classes 1 through 10.

Heading the textbook revision committee appointed by the government was Manjunath Hegde, a retired history professor. Hegde oversaw numerous alterations to the syllabi, aligning them with the National Curriculum Framework-2005. Notably, there’s a heightened emphasis on Kannada literature, featuring prominent cultural figures from the state, along with works by Jnanapeeth awardees, now incorporated into classes 8-10.

The revisions were solely aimed at enhancing students’ educational experience without altering the fundamental structure of the textbooks.

In a bid to alleviate the burden of heavy textbooks on students, the education department previously mandated the division of textbooks into two parts, with each section providing relevant context to its content. The social science textbooks underwent revisions to incorporate key aspects such as constitutional principles, gender sensitivity, child rights, and the democratic and secular ethos of the nation.

Updates to political science textbooks include coverage of recent developments such as the Women’s Reservation Bill, India’s international relations, and insights into local governance structures within the legislative system.

The revision extends to Kannada language textbooks for both first and second languages across classes 1-10, third language Kannada textbooks for classes 9-10, and social science textbooks spanning classes 6-10.
