    New prices to kick in this new year

    Earlier, CM Siddaramaiah had hiked prices

This new year, get ready to pay more as the prices of alcoholic drinks will be increased. 

A letter in this regard has been sent to the Excise Department. 

The brands which have seen an increase in the prices include Old Tavern, Bagpiper and 8 pm. 

Apart from sending a letter to the Excise Department, even bar owners have been apprised of the increase in prices. 

On an average, the increase in Rs 30 per quarter. 

Siddaramaiah banks on booze to earn more

Earlier this year, when Karnataka Chief Minister Siddarmaiah presented his budget, he increased taxes on booze so as to augment his resources to fund the government. The government had stormed  back to power, promising as many as 5 guarantees. 

And in order to realise these guarantees, he increased alcoholic prices by 20%. 

Interestingly, he had even set a target of Rs 36,000 crore from the sale of such alcoholic drinks. Last year, the amount collected was Rs 2923 crore (2022-23).
