A delayed revelation of a high-value cash robbery near the Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra border has triggered a multi-state probe amid claims of political links, kidnapping, and police involvement.
A sensational robbery case involving a massive cash consignment has surfaced weeks after the incident, sending shockwaves across the country. The incident took place on October 16, 2025, at Chorla Ghat in Khanapur taluk of Belagavi district, a tri-junction connecting Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.
According to initial information, a container transporting ₹400 crore in old ₹2,000 denomination notes from Goa to Maharashtra suddenly went missing at the Chorla Ghat stretch. The money is suspected to belong to Maharashtra-based real estate businessman Kishor Shetty. Investigators believe the cash was being moved for use in Maharashtra’s local body elections, raising serious political funding concerns.
The case has taken a dramatic turn after the complainant and alleged victim, Sandeep Patil, released a video statement. He claimed that the missing amount is not limited to ₹400 crore but could exceed ₹1,000 crore. Patil alleged that soon after the container disappeared, associates of Kishor Shetty kidnapped him at gunpoint.

In his statement, Patil said he was illegally detained for nearly one and a half months, tortured, and repeatedly questioned about the missing container. He alleged that he was blamed for the disappearance and was given an ultimatum: reveal the location of the cash or pay ₹100 crore in currently valid currency. Patil emotionally stated that he was subjected to severe mental and physical abuse during captivity.
Adding to the gravity of the case, Patil has accused two Maharashtra police officers of involvement. He claimed that he received threatening WhatsApp calls from police officials and remained silent out of fear for his life. Patil alleged that pressure was mounted through the police machinery to suppress the case and that Shetty’s associates themselves were behind the disappearance of the container.
So far, Nashik Police have arrested four accused in connection with the case and launched a manhunt for two more suspects. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe. He has also written to the Belagavi Superintendent of Police Ramarajan and Goa Police, seeking full cooperation.
