French tourist Bruno Roger, 52, rescued after two days in Hampi with a broken leg from a fall. He’s now receiving treatment at Koppal District Hospital

A dramatic rescue unfolded in Hampi, Vijayanagar district, when a French national was found injured after being stranded for two days following a fall. The tourist, identified as 52old Bruno Roger, slipped while climbing the Ashtabhuj Snan hill on December 24.

Roger sustained a broken leg and severe bleeding after the accident, leaving him unable to walk. Alone in a deserted area behind the hill, he endured two days without assistance. In a bid to survive, he crawled towards a nearby banana plantation, where he was eventually discovered.

Officials from the Archaeological Department and local police located him during a routine inspection and immediately called for medical help. An ambulance transported Roger to Koppal District Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Doctors confirmed his leg fracture and are monitoring his recovery.

The incident highlights the dangers faced by tourists exploring Hampi’s rugged terrain. The heritage site, known for its rocky hills and ancient monuments, attracts thousands of visitors annually. Police have now launched an inquiry into the circumstances of the accident and are reviewing safety measures around the site. Officials stressed the importance of tourists avoiding isolated areas and ensuring they have proper support while exploring.

Roger’s survival, despite serious injuries and two days of isolation, underscores the need for stronger monitoring systems in heritage zones to safeguard visitors.
