High Court rejects Prajwal Revanna’s plea to suspend his life term and deny him bail while his appeal is still pending.
The Karnataka High Court has dismissed former MP Prajwal Revanna’s request seeking suspension of the life sentence imposed on him by the Special Court for People’s Representatives. With this order, he will not receive bail for now, marking another setback in his ongoing legal battle.
Revanna had approached the High Court asking for relief while his criminal appeal is still under consideration. His plea urged the court to keep the lower court’s punishment on hold and grant him bail until the appeal is decided. However, the division bench comprising Justice K.S. Mudagal and Justice T. Venkatesh Naik declined the request, making it clear that the life sentence will remain in force at this stage.

The case originates from a complaint filed by a domestic worker, who accused Revanna of sexual assault. In August 2025, the Special Court for elected representatives found him guilty after examining the evidence. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment with rigorous punishment, along with a fine exceeding ₹11 lakh. A major portion of this fine was ordered to be handed over to the survivor as compensation.
Following the conviction, Revanna filed a criminal appeal before the High Court challenging the verdict. Even before the appeal could be fully heard, he moved a separate application asking for suspension of the sentence and temporary release on bail. The High Court has now rejected this application, affirming that he is not entitled to bail at this point.

With the dismissal of his petition, Revanna continues to remain in custody as the appeal proceedings are yet to be completed. The High Court’s latest order reinforces the lower court’s verdict and keeps the life sentence intact until further judicial review.
