Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hails the landmark recognition as a proud moment for Karnataka and a giant leap in women empowerment.

Karnataka’s ambitious Shakti scheme has etched its name in the prestigious Golden Book of World Records, creating a historic milestone in public welfare and women empowerment. Since its launch on June 11, 2023, the scheme has enabled women across the state to make an astonishing 5.04 billion free bus journeys till July 25, 2025.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, celebrating the recognition, described it as a proud moment not just for the government but for the entire state. “This achievement belongs to our mothers, sisters, and daughters who travel daily for work, education, healthcare, and livelihood. Shakti has empowered women socially, economically, and educationally, while boosting their participation in the industrial sector,” he said in a post on X.

The scheme, which provides free travel on state-run buses for all women, has been hailed for reducing financial burdens and improving mobility. CM Siddaramaiah also congratulated Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and transport department staff for their efforts in making the initiative a success.
