  • Nandini ghee price increased from ₹610 to ₹700 per kg
  • Hike aims to offset KMF’s production losses and support farmers
  • Other Nandini dairy product prices remain unchanged

Amid celebrations over GST rate cuts, Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has increased the price of Nandini ghee by ₹90 per kg, citing rising production costs and mounting losses.

In a move that has surprised consumers, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has announced a ₹90 per kg hike in the price of Nandini ghee, effective immediately. The decision comes even as people were celebrating the recent GST rate reductions on various items.

Until now, a kilogram of Nandini ghee was priced at ₹610. With the new revision, it will now cost ₹700 per kg across all variants. KMF clarified that this change applies only to ghee, while prices of other Nandini products such as milk, curd, butter, and paneer will remain unchanged.

Explaining the reason behind the hike, BAMUL President and former MP D.K. Suresh said the decision was unavoidable due to financial strain and supply challenges. “We are currently producing between 95 lakh and 1 crore litres of milk daily, but only 50 lakh litres are being sold. We have promised to pay an additional ₹4 per litre to farmers. However, we are incurring heavy losses from milk product manufacturing,” Suresh said.

He further added that there is a growing shortage of butter and high demand for both butter and ghee. “Our Nandini ghee is made purely from cow’s milk and maintains top quality standards. But to sustain production and balance costs, a price revision became necessary,” he explained.
