Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka, is resplendent in festive grandeur as the world-renowned 2025 Nadahabba Dasara celebrations commence. Adding to the traditional splendour, the royal private darbar of the Mysuru royal family has begun at the historic Amba Vilas Palace.
On Monday, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar, adorned in pink royal attire, ascended the throne and conducted rituals steeped in centuries-old tradition. The day began between 5:30 and 6:45 a.m. with the ceremonial installation of the lion emblem on the jewel-studded throne. Later, accompanied by his consort Trishika Kumari Wodeyar, he participated in rituals at Chamundi Totti, including the symbolic bangle ceremony.
Procession of elephants, horses and cattle
The day’s proceedings saw a majestic procession of elephants, horses and cattle carrying kalashas to the Kodi Someshwara Temple, where sacred rituals were performed. At 2:05 p.m., the Vijaya Yatra of Goddess Chamundeshwari began from Chamundi Totti to Kannadi Totti, marked by devotional music and traditional offerings.
The private darbar will continue from September 23 to 29, concluding with Saraswati Puja and night rituals at the palace. The grand Ayudha Puja will feature the ceremonial worship of royal weapons, including the Wodeyar crown sword, at the Kalyana Mantapa.
On October 2, Vijaya Dashami will be observed with special pujas at 10 a.m., followed by the auspicious Vijaya Yatra. The festivities will culminate in the world-famous Jambu Savari, showcasing Mysuru’s enduring royal traditions and cultural magnificence.
