The world-famous Mysuru Dasara festivities began today with grandeur, blending tradition and cultural vibrancy. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Banu Mushtaq inaugurated the celebrations at Chamundi Hill, marking the formal start of the ten-day festival.
The opening day saw a flurry of events across the city. At the historic Mysore Palace, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar held the traditional private durbar, with the golden throne brought from the palace strongroom under tight security. This rare ritual, observed only once a year, drew considerable attention.
Simultaneously, multiple events unfolded across Mysuru. The Dasara Wrestling Tournament began at Vidyodaya Stadium, while a flower show at Kuppanna Park showcased spectacular floral displays. Food lovers thronged the Dasara Food Fair at the Maharaja’s College Grounds, inaugurated by Minister K.H. Muniyappa. Book lovers, meanwhile, gathered at the Scouts and Guides Grounds where a book fair and painting camp opened. Yoga Dasara, theatre performances, and a Panchatatva Darshana program also commenced at the Mysore Medical College.

The evening highlight was the illumination of Mysore Palace and Sayyaji Rao Road with dazzling electric lights, a sight that drew thousands. CM Siddaramaiah also inaugurated the grand exhibition and presented the State Music Vidwan Award at a cultural ceremony in the palace.
Though Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar’s absence was noted, more than half the cabinet ministers participated. With nearly a dozen programs launched on day one, Mysuru has truly embraced the festive spirit of Nadahabba Dasara.
