Higher liquor and beer sales during the year-end festive period helped Karnataka’s Excise Department record a sharp jump in revenue compared to last year.
New Year celebrations have brought significant financial gains for the Karnataka government, with liquor and beer sales recording a sharp rise compared to the previous year. Official data from the Excise Department shows a substantial increase in both volume and revenue during the three-day festive period.
Between December 29, 30 and 31, 2025, the state sold 9.84 lakh boxes of Indian Made Liquor (IML). This marks an increase of 1.59 lakh boxes compared to the same three days in 2024, when 8.25 lakh boxes of IML were sold.

Beer sales also witnessed a notable jump. During the three-day New Year period this year, 6.64 lakh boxes of beer were sold across the state. In comparison, beer sales during December 29–31, 2024 stood at 5.03 lakh boxes, indicating an additional 1.61 lakh boxes sold this year.
The rise in sales directly reflected in government revenue. The Excise Department earned ₹587.51 crore from IML and beer sales during the 2025 year-end period. Last year, revenue from the same period was ₹420.77 crore.
This means the state recorded an additional revenue of ₹166.74 crore this year compared to 2024. Officials attributed the growth to higher festive demand and increased consumer spending during New Year celebrations.
