Following sustained NewsFirst investigations, Mysuru district administration moves to demolish six illegal resorts, identifies over 20 encroachments, and begins action in HD Kote taluk.
In a major breakthrough driven by continuous investigative reporting, NewsFirst’s sustained coverage has resulted in decisive administrative action against illegal resorts operating near the Kabini backwaters in Mysuru district. Acting on these reports, Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikant Reddy has ordered the demolition of six illegal resorts and initiated steps to clear several more encroachments.
The district administration has identified more than 20 resorts and homestays functioning illegally in the ecologically sensitive Kabini region, located in HD Kote taluk. As part of the first phase of action, demolition orders have been issued for Sandesh Water Edge, Bison Wildlife, Water Woods, Red Earth Kabini, Discovery Village, Fireflies Resorts, and Exotic Kabini Homestay.
The Deputy Commissioner personally directed officials to carry out the removals and publicly announced the decision in the presence of farmers affected by the encroachments. He assured that the demolition process would begin immediately and confirmed that all illegal constructions would be cleared in a phased manner.
This decisive move follows a series of detailed reports aired by NewsFirst, which highlighted rampant violations, environmental damage, and illegal land use along the Kabini backwaters. These reports triggered public outrage and strengthened grassroots protests under the banner of the ‘Save Kabini’ campaign.
Advocate V Ravikumar, a key member of the Save Kabini team, expressed gratitude to NewsFirst, stating that the consistent coverage played a crucial role in forcing administrative action. He said that after noticing NewsFirst’s initial reports, activists launched protests, organised demonstrations, and even undertook indefinite hunger strikes to demand justice.

According to Ravikumar, NewsFirst’s relentless focus exposed the illegal operations on camera and brought transparency to the issue. This public pressure ultimately compelled the district administration to step in. He further stated that legal action will continue until every illegal resort in the Kabini region is removed.
The district administration has now committed to re-inspecting all identified properties and ensuring that no unauthorised construction remains. Officials confirmed that re-auctions, sealing, and demolition drives will continue in the coming days to protect the ecological balance of the Kabini backwaters.
