KSRTC is set to introduce a Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System across its fleet, allowing passengers to track buses, arrival times, and trip details in real time.
Passengers travelling on KSRTC buses are likely to get a major convenience boost with the introduction of a real-time bus tracking system. The corporation is planning to implement the Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System (VTMS), similar to the system already in use by BMTC within Bengaluru city.
Once launched, the new system will allow passengers to access live information about KSRTC buses through a dedicated mobile application. The app will provide details about bus movement, expected arrival time at bus stops, and trip-related information, helping passengers plan their journeys better.
As part of the rollout, VTMS will cover nearly 8,000 KSRTC buses, including around 700 buses that are set to be added to the fleet. The decision has been taken to install the system in both existing and newly inducted buses, ensuring uniform tracking across the entire network.

One of the key benefits of the system is reduced waiting time at bus stops. By checking real-time arrival updates on the app, passengers can avoid standing at terminals or roadside stops for long hours. The app will also display important details such as the bus registration number and trip code, offering clear identification of services.
A central control centre will operate from the satellite bus station, where bus movement will be continuously monitored. The system will function using satellite-based tracking, enabling accurate location updates and smoother monitoring of services across routes.
The VTMS-based tracking system is expected to be introduced by the last week of March, subject to final readiness. Once operational, it is expected to improve passenger experience, service transparency, and overall efficiency of KSRTC operations.
