  • Shivakumar’s “Word power is world power” post intensifies power-sharing debate
  • Internal meetings and negotiations underline rising pressure within Congress
  • High command expected to take up the issue in Delhi to settle the leadership row

Amid renewed debate over the power-sharing pact, Shivakumar’s subtle message adds pressure on the Congress high command as talks move towards New Delhi.

The leadership debate in Karnataka gained fresh momentum on Thursday as Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar posted a cryptic message on X, stating that “Word power is world power.” The remark, shared during the Constitution Day event at Bharat Jodo Bhavan in Bengaluru on November 27, 2025, is being widely viewed as a pointed reminder to the Congress leadership about the long-discussed power-sharing pact.

Shivakumar wrote that keeping one’s word is the greatest strength, emphasising that every leader, from judges to presidents, must stand by their commitments. The timing of the post has heightened speculation, coming amid intensified discussions over the Chief Minister’s post and the widening rift within the ruling Congress.

The message follows his recent acknowledgment of a “power-sharing pact” formulated when the party came to power in 2023. He described the agreement as a “secret among five to six people,” indicating that he would not publicly reveal the details. His comments have triggered political ripples within the party, with the leadership question becoming more pronounced.

In the past few days, Shivakumar has also initiated a series of meetings with ministers widely seen as loyal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, including B.Z. Zameer Ahmed, Satish Jarkiholi, and K.J. George. According to sources familiar with the developments, he assured these leaders that they would be “looked after well” if he assumes the Chief Minister’s position, seeking support as the internal debate grows sharper.

With the ongoing dispute affecting the image of the government, the Congress high command, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, is expected to hold discussions with both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar in New Delhi to reach a resolution. The party aims to settle the matter amicably before it further disrupts governance in the state.

As the political atmosphere remains tense, Shivakumar’s pointed phrase “Word power is world power” has added a new layer to the unfolding leadership drama in Karnataka.
