CRS approval strengthens Baiyappanahalli-Hosur corridor, paving the way for expanded MEMU services and improved commuter access near Electronics City.
The newly constructed double line between Belandur Road and Carmelaram, along with the completed Huskur railway station, has been authorised for passenger train operations after a detailed inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The approval marks a major milestone for the Baiyappanahalli-Hosur corridor, one of the busiest suburban stretches in Bengaluru.
According to officials from Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd. (K-RIDE), the CRS team examined track quality, signalling systems, station facilities, and the overall readiness of the section. The corridor met all required safety and operational standards, clearing the way for passenger movement.

The commissioning of the Baiyyappanahalli-Belandur Road segment and the Heelalige-Anekal Road stretch is expected to create additional bandwidth for Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains. These services are widely preferred by daily commuters travelling between Bengaluru and Hosur due to their frequency and convenience.
During the inspection, trains reportedly achieved a peak speed of 107.7 kmph on the new double line. K-RIDE has also introduced 25 kV AC electric traction on the Belandur Road-Carmelaram section and the loop lines at Huskur station. This upgrade significantly enhances the operational efficiency of the larger Baiyappanahalli-Hosur route under the Bengaluru Division.
While Huskur station will initially handle freight operations, officials note that it is designed to eventually support large-scale commuter traffic. Located about 5 km from Electronics City, it offers a more accessible alternative to Heelalige station, which is nearly 10 km away. Residents and regular travellers believe the new station will play a crucial role in easing daily travel once passenger services are introduced.
