The consequence of the escalated tension in the Gaza region between Israel and the Hamas has resulted in an increase in orders for Thomas Olickal, the owner of Maryan Apparel Pvt Limited the company that has been supplying 1 lakh uniforms to Israeli police on an annual basis for 8 years. Thomas was contacted by the Israeli police after October 7th as a part of the process of gearing up for the response by Israel.

The Israeli police have ordered cargo pants and shirt uniform set which will be used in police training. The fabric production is going on and there are plans to start stitching by November-end or the beginning of December. 

The factory is based out of Kannur which has a vibrant handloom and textile economy. The unit employs more than 1500 workers.  “ It is really a matter of pride for us that we are supplying uniform shirts for a top-class police force like that of Israel,” Olickal said in an interaction with a Malyali news channel. 

Thomas Olickal is however based in Mumbai. “Their representatives came to Mumbai and discussed the deal. Later, they visited the factory here with their top officials, designers, and quality controllers. They were here for nearly 10 days,” said Thomas recollecting how the deal materialised.
