The Hema Committee report, made public on August 19, uncovered widespread issues of sexual harassment, exploitation, and systemic abuse within the Malayalam film industry. The report triggered a wave of accusations from actors against filmmakers, technicians, and fellow actors, leading to intense scrutiny of AMMA's leadership.

In a statement, AMMA expressed hope for renewed leadership that would address the issues raised and strengthen the association. "We are hopeful that AMMA will have a new leadership capable of renewing and strengthening the association. Thanks to everyone for criticising and correcting," the statement read.

Among those implicated in the scandal is actor Siddique, who resigned from his position as General Secretary of AMMA after being accused of sexual misconduct. Other prominent names, including filmmakers Ranjith and Thulasidas, and actors Jayasurya and Mukesh, were also named in the report.

AMMA announced that a general body meeting will be convened within two months to elect a new governing body, marking a pivotal moment for the association and the industry at large.
