Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) celebrates a remarkable year, marking its highest annual passenger and cargo traffic figures on record.

In the fiscal year 2023-2024, the airport witnessed an unprecedented 37.53 million passengers passing through its terminals. Of these, 32.86 million were domestic travelers, while 4.67 million were international passengers.

Cargo throughput also experienced a substantial surge, reaching 439,524 metric tonnes (MT) during the same period.

Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer at Bangalore International Airport Limited, reportedly expressed his excitement, describing the past financial year as a “landmark period” for BLR Airport. He highlighted the airport’s record-breaking passenger and cargo numbers, as well as its expansion in airline partnerships and destinations served.

The surge in travel demand propelled BLR Airport to emerge as the premier gateway in South India during FY 2024. The airport offered connections to a total of 108 destinations, including 80 domestic and 28 international routes. This period also witnessed a remarkable increase in air traffic movements (ATMs), with a total of 245,880 ATMs recorded.

BLR Airport’s network was further strengthened by the addition of several new airlines, both domestic and international. Notably, BLR Cargo continued its growth trajectory, registering a notable 7.1% increase in total throughput compared to the previous year.

May 2023 marked a significant milestone with the successful completion of India’s most notable brownfield cargo transition at BLR Airport. This transition aimed to enhance operational efficiency and expand cargo handling capacity, aligning with the airport’s vision to become a premier cargo hub with a handling capacity of around 1 million metric tonnes per annum by the end of the decade.
