KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) is set to expand its electric bus fleet with the addition of 300 new vehicles, aiming to enhance connectivity to neighbouring districts of Bengaluru.

The procurement of these buses is in line with GCC contracts, but the corporation anticipates a rise in costs due to the absence of a central government subsidy.

These buses will play a pivotal role in connecting passengers to districts surrounding Bengaluru, focusing on areas within a 100 km radius. KSRTC aims to conduct an experimental run of electric buses on shorter routes, deviating from its current fleet of 50 electric buses acquired under the FAME II subsidy. These buses have successfully covered over 7-8 lakh kilometers during the past 7-8 months.

The existing electric buses currently operate between Bengaluru and various cities such as Mysuru, Virajpet, Madikeri, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, and Shivamogga, covering distances exceeding 200 km. Equipped with EV Power Plus technology, these buses boast a range of up to 250 km on a single charge.

KSRTC’s new plan involves deploying the upcoming 300 buses on shorter routes, with an expected range of 180 km on a single charge. These 12-meter non-AC buses will feature disabled-friendly amenities, catering specifically to routes within a 180 km radius.

Consequently, KSRTC aims to connect Bengaluru with nearby districts through these buses, experimenting with shorter distances to optimize their efficiency.
