Congress candidates refuse LS tickets
BJP sees a massive surge in candidacies
Upbeat mood in BJP, despondency in Congress
There are contrasting scenes emerging from Karnataka politics, even as the nation is all set to go for the national polls in a few days.
While the mood in the BJP is upbeat, with several candidates throwing their hats into the ring, on the other side, many Congressmen are unwilling to contest the elections, sensing ignominious defeat.
The names induce incumbent MLAs like Soumya Reddy, Priya Krishna, and even ministers like Dr HC Mahadevappa, KH Muniyappa, B Nagendra, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Krishna Byre Gowda, among others.
The abundance of candidates in BJP
On the contrary, the saffron party in Karnataka is seeing an uncontrolled flow of candidates. While Pratap Simha from Mysore-Kodagu region may be dropped, senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa is batting for a ticket for his son from Shivamogga.
By this evening, the BJP is expected to release its second list, having a few names from Karnataka.
The mood in Congress not great
With several election surveys giving a thumbs-up to the BJP in the upcoming elections, the mood is indeed nothing short of being despondent.
The Congress is trying its best to woo voters, but as of now, it doesn’t seem to interest the voters. As we file this report, the Congress announced as many as five guarantees, one of which includes Rs 1 lakh annual aid to women from poorer backgrounds.
