  • In 2014 Narendra Modi received a Chombu: Deve Gowda
  • He transformed Chombu into an Akshaya Patra: Deve Gowda
  • BJP has now initiated the ‘Chippu’ campaign

The symbolism of ‘Chombu’ (empty vessel) has become prominent in the lead up to the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The Indian National Congress (INC) has alleged that the Central Government hasn’t aided in Karnataka’s development and that their contribution is the equivalent of a ‘Chombu.’

Former Prime Minister of India H.D Deve Gowda has now responded to this campaign. He stated that the Chombu has been transformed into an ‘Akshaya Patra (inexhaustible vessel).’ “In 2014 Narendra Modi received a Chombu. He transformed that into an Akshaya Patra and ruled the country for 10 years. The poor, the backward castes, the tribals and dalits have advanced in all walks of life,” H.D Deve Gowda said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has now responded to this statement by H.D Deve Gowda. “From independence until 2014, India had an outstanding debt of Rs 53 lakh 11 thousand crores. During the last ten years, that amount has expanded into Rs 177 lakh crore. In 10 years alone, Modi has accumulated a debt of Rs 124 lakh crore. Do you call this Akshaya Patra? It is sad that HD Deve Gowa has stooped down to this level,’ Siddaramaiah mentioned.

In response to the Chombu campaign, the BJP has now initiated the ‘Chippu’ (coconut shell) campaign.
