Dr CN Manjunath is a cardiologist by profession
He headed Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology in Bengaluru
His contribution to the institute is nothing short of phenomenal
The BJP sprang a surprise as it fielded Dr CN Manjunath as its candidate from Bangalore Rural, which is a stronghold of the Congress. Presently, it is represented by DK Suresh.
Even as the BJP fancies its chances, let’s have a look at how Manjunath is and what his works are:
Dr CN Manjunath was the director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology in Bengaluru. He retired on January 31. Incidentally, he is the son-in-law of former PM Deve Gowda.
He had been at the helm of affairs for 16 long years. During his tenure, the hospital grew from being a 300-bed hospital to a 2000-bed hospital. As many as 75 lakh patients have been treated, with 8 lakh patients undergoing surgeries.
He is also known to have trained as many as 350 heart specialists. Now, in his last days at the hospital, the doctor recalls how he had dreamt to make this hospital on par with any other private heart-related hospital. Now, he asserts that the hospital is as good as any other corporate hospital.
The specialist also recalled how the institute faced a cash crunch when he took over. And in order to improve the financial situation, he had urged the staff to donate a day’s salary and the staff only countenanced his request. Also, there was a permanent corpus of Rs 5 lakh for the poor. And when he bid goodbye, the corpus stood at a humongous Rs 150 crore!
